After the launch of the newspaper in 2006, nrc.next had a different tone and content, intended for a younger audience. An important part of the copy came from the evening newspaper NRC, but the editors clearly made a 'translation' in their articles for their own target group. 

 

Nrc.next was initially intended for 'the new generation of interested media users who deal with news and information differently',

​From March 29, 2021 to April 25, 2022, the name 'NRC' was used for both, also written 'nrc'.
